It’s a hard life but Nick Horwood and I are doing our best to get by, like the soldiers we are.
Our first day in Norway and everything is high! After a warm-up on the lower Maar, the excellent water levels forced us to run the infamous Spanemfossen (Below).

Nick Horwood running the Spanemfossen. The home-run, just a short walk up from our tent, had to wait another day before we dared to venture its drops.

Max Bilbow on the Home Run, The Maar. Often when we are about to paddle a scary drop, or when getting changed in the wind, rain and hail; it is not uncommon to ask ourselves “Why? Why do we do it?”.
In the words of Sam Hughes, at the put in for the Numedalslaagen “It’s not because it’s fun. It’s because we are heros.”

Max Bilbow: Trikking across the snowy montain pass is most exhilarating. The mountain pass towards Sjoa proved very photogenic. The long smooth hills are perfect for a good Trikking session.

Max Bilbow on Bums-Rush Falls (Popo Falls), on the Goyst. The upper Goyst: Possibly my favorite section of river in Telemark – loads of sweet technical drops and slides and everything goes! We ran Popo Falls (above) several times, with varying hilarity, before heading back for dinner.

Max Bilbow on the Upper Ulla, above the slides. Two essential creek runs in Sjoa: The Ulla and upper Jori. Stunning drops and slides in deliciously open settings. Not sure about your line? walk up and do it again!
Even at high flows the lines are clear – and even more stunning.
Gaute making the line after the slides. This drop almost too fun ebudy – So we ran it again.
I love flying.

Above: The standard obligatory Ulla Falls photo. Big thanks to Jim Hill for that one. We’re off to Voss next week for the festival. Good times sure to be had by all. If you’re not in Norway already, make sure you get our in time for the Sjoa festival, 11 – 15 July.
